ATTARI (AMRITSAR), APRIL 18 — Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann initiated a comprehensive infrastructure project in the Attari constituency on Friday, dedicating ₹57.80 crore for the renovation of 137 kilometers of roadway. The project, which covers 121 different roads, represents a significant investment in a region that the Chief Minister stated had been overlooked by previous administrations despite its strategic border location.

The Chief Minister asserted that the development push is part of a larger effort to revitalize the economic and social fabric of border areas. During the foundation stone laying ceremony, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the Punjab Government is simultaneously working to unlock lakhs of acres through border fencing realignment, eliminate the drug menace from its roots, and steer Punjab toward a decisive development mandate in 2027.

Addressing the historical challenges of the region, the Chief Minister maintained that past governments had allowed a “black era” of drug trade to flourish. He affirmed that the current administration has snapped supply lines and shifted the campaign against narcotics into a mass movement. CM Bhagwant Singh Mann declared that the day is not far when, together with the people, the state will erase the stigma of drugs from Punjab forever.

The infrastructure announcement also coincided with news regarding border farming. The Chief Minister declared that a survey is currently underway to shift border fencing to within 300 meters of the international boundary. He noted that this change, affecting a 532 km stretch from Pathankot to Fazilka, would finally allow farmers to cultivate land that was previously restricted, providing major relief to the agricultural community in six border districts.
