Chandigarh/Sangrur, April 28: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurated the initial phase of Census 2027 on Tuesday, beginning with the “House Listing and Enumeration of Houses” process. Marking the state’s shift toward digital inclusion, the Chief Minister completed his own self-enumeration from his native village of Satoz in Sangrur district using the official government portal.

“Accurate census data is the backbone of governance,” the Chief Minister affirmed. He stated that the information gathered is essential for effective policy making, infrastructure development, and the equitable distribution of resources. Mann maintained that by personally using the digital platform, he intended to demonstrate the accessibility and citizen-centric nature of the new system.

The Chief Minister appealed to all residents to utilize the self-enumeration facility, which remains open from April 30 through May 14. He declared that active public participation is vital for creating a reliable national database. Following the digital window, a door-to-door survey will take place from May 15 to June 13, during which officials will record details regarding housing conditions and household assets.

Director of Census Operations Dr. Navjot Khosa noted that the participation of the Chief Minister serves to strengthen public confidence in the process. She declared that the adoption of self-enumeration would play a decisive role in ensuring comprehensive coverage across both rural and urban sectors of Punjab.
