Mohali, April 29: The Rajasthan Royals overcame a formidable target to defeat the Punjab Kings by six wickets in Mullanpur on Tuesday, marking the first loss of the season for the Punjab franchise. Chasing 223, Rajasthan reached 228 for four in 19.2 overs, fueled by an explosive opening and a clinical finishing partnership.

Donovan Ferreira and Shubham Dube emerged as the architects of the victory, stitching together an unbeaten 77-run stand for the fifth wicket in only 32 deliveries. Ferreira, who finished on 52 not out, sealed the win by striking decisive sixes in the final moments of the game. Chief contributors to the early chase included Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 51, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who struck a rapid 43 runs off 16 balls.

The Punjab Kings’ bowling department struggled to contain the run flow, with high economy rates across the board. Arshdeep Singh conceded 68 runs in his four overs, while Lockie Ferguson and Marco Jansen gave away 57 and 41 runs respectively. Despite the bowling struggles, Punjab had earlier set a massive total of 222 for four, propelled by Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 62 off 22 balls and Prabhsimran Singh’s 59.

Stoinis asserted his dominance in the final overs, hitting six sixes to help Punjab add 55 runs in the last three overs of their innings. Leg-spinner Yash Raj Punja was the standout bowler for Rajasthan, claiming two wickets for 41 runs. The match, played under tight security arrangements, has caused a significant shift in the IPL points table as the season progresses.
