NEW DELHI, MAY 21 — The microblogging platform X withheld the official account of the Cockroach Janta Party within India on Thursday, executing the restriction in response to an official legal demand issued by domestic authorities.
The administrative action follows a rapid surge in popularity for the Gen Z-focused satirical movement, which recently surpassed the official Instagram follower count of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Abhijeet Dipke, the digital communication strategist who established the satirical campaign, confirmed the localized block by publishing administrative notices detailing the platform’s compliance with regional statutory directives.
The online collective, which represents itself as a digital platform for unemployed and frustrated youth, has increasingly integrated mainstream political criticism with internet meme culture.
“As expected, Cockroach Janta Party’s account has been withheld in India,” Dipke stated in a public announcement confirming the restriction. “Why are they so scared of us?”
The organizer noted that the digital restriction occurred shortly after the platform published statements seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over recent competitive examination cancellations and paper leak controversies.
The political movement originated last week as a direct response to a controversial courtroom analogy attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a legal hearing. The jurist reportedly compared sections of unemployed youth and digital commentators to parasites and cockroaches, sparking widespread criticism across social media forums before the judge issued a formal clarification stating his remarks were taken out of context.
“What began as satire is now turning into something much bigger,” Dipke noted prior to the digital restriction. “People are messaging us saying they have lost hope in both the government and the Opposition.”
