Chandigarh, July 1: Senior BJP leader and legal veteran Satya Pal Jain has secured a brief extension as India’s Additional Solicitor General at the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, cleared the proposal on Tuesday, allowing him to retain his legal responsibilities at the high court for an extra three months starting from July 1.
The notification from the Union government simultaneously prolonged the assignments of two other top legal officers at different high courts across the country. Shashi Prakash Singh and Krishna Nandan Singh were reappointed as Additional Solicitors General at the Allahabad and Patna High Courts, respectively, matching the same three-month timeline given to Jain.
A seasoned leader within the national ruling party, Jain has managed the central government’s extensive litigation at Chandigarh since the early stages of his deployment. He was first chosen for the newly established post on April 9, 2015, during the administration of former President Pranab Mukherjee. The Union Cabinet had created this specific zonal law officer post in December 2014 to streamline central legal representations in regional constitutional courts.
