Chandigarh, July 4: The state government has initiated a comprehensive ‘Shudh Dudh, Tandarust Punjab’ campaign across the region to ensure the availability of unadulterated milk and protect public health. Under this consumer welfare initiative, a dedicated toll-free helpline has been made operational alongside the appointment of a state nodal officer to address public grievances and monitor milk quality.

Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian announced that the Dairy Development Department has already analyzed 6,000 milk samples during 160 special awareness camps organized since the beginning of April. The administration is currently expanding its infrastructure, adding five new mobile laboratory vans to the four existing units already conducting door-to-door testing across the state.

To maximize the efficiency of the campaign, authorities have distributed thousands of portable testing kits to local dairy development offices and veterinary polyclinics. These advanced tools allow officials to detect adulterants such as urea, starch, and hydrogen peroxide on the spot, bypassing the need for central laboratory evaluation.

“Adulterated milk is a direct threat to the health of consumers and it also affects the income of farmers involved in the dairy business,” Khudian asserted. “To tackle this problem, we have deployed mobile labs, distributed testing kits and also started a toll-free number for direct public feedback so that quality can be safeguarded at every stage.”

Backing the field execution, Principal Secretary of the department Rahul Bhandari stated that citizens can access free testing facilities at all District Deputy Director offices during regular working hours. The state has centralized its response team under State Nodal Officer Mandeep Singh to ensure that direct public inputs are addressed immediately.
