New Delhi, July 17: Senior IPS officer Anurag Kumar has been named the new Commissioner of Delhi Police, according to an official government notification released on Friday. The 1994-batch officer of the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre succeeds the outgoing chief, Satish Golcha.
The transition comes after a high-level administrative decision to return the senior bureaucrat to his original regional assignment.
“With the approval of the Competent Authority, Anurag Kumar, IPS (AGMUT:1994), is hereby appointed as Commissioner of Police, Delhi, with effect from the date of assumption of charge and until further orders,” the order stated.
The shift follows a key directive issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, which is chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The panel approved the repatriation of the veteran officer from the Intelligence Bureau back to his parent cadre just a day prior to his assignment as police chief. In his previous role at the premier domestic intelligence agency, he operated as the Special Director.
The outgoing chief, who belongs to the 1992 batch of the AGMUT cadre, will now transition to a new administrative assignment. The official order declared that Golcha has been directed to report directly to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for his next posting immediately after the incoming commissioner formally takes over the office.
