Hyderabad, July 18: The Mahabubnagar Rural Police booked two men for kidnapping after an investigation revealed a couple allegedly sold their 15-day-old infant for 1 lakh rupees. The transaction came to light following a probe into the family’s initial claims that the child had been stolen from their home. Law enforcement personnel are actively tracking the suspects involved in the procurement while reviewing the actions of the parents.
The case shifted from a reported abduction to an illegal transaction due to an inquiry by child welfare authorities. The infant’s parents, identified as Keshavulu and Neelamma, originally informed neighbors and officials that their child disappeared when they briefly stepped out of their residence in the Telugugudeni area of Mahabubnagar rural mandal. Discrepancies in their statements prompted the Integrated Child Development Services to intervene and lodge a formal complaint with the local police.
Primary enforcement measures are currently focusing on locating the intermediaries named in the official complaint. Investigators identified the two fleeing suspects as Tarun and Bheemiah, who face charges under Section 137 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Special teams are tracking their movements, and child protection officials are working to ensure the immediate recovery and safety of the infant.
Legal proceedings will expand to include the biological parents as soon as the preliminary investigation concludes. Authorities stated that they are investigating the exact circumstances that led the couple to allegedly sell their newborn. Officials further affirmed that definitive action will be taken against the parents once the inquiry is complete.
