Srinagar, August 8: The ongoing annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra will remain temporarily suspended along both traditional routes starting August 9 to facilitate essential track maintenance and safeguard pilgrims against predicted inclement weather.
An official spokesperson stated that recent heavy rainfall across high-altitude stretches necessitated immediate repair work by the Border Roads Organisation along vulnerable sections of the tracks.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg declared that forecast models from the India Meteorological Department indicate adverse weather over the coming days, prompting authorities to pause movement from both the Chandanwari axis in Anantnag and the Baltal route in Ganderbal.
“More than 4.8 lakh devotees have successfully performed darshan at the holy cave shrine since the 57-day pilgrimage commenced on July 3,” the spokesperson maintained, adding that safety advisories issued by administration officials should be strictly followed by arriving pilgrims.
Administration officials affirmed that the traditional Chadi Mubarak procession will proceed via the Pahalgam route to mark the formal culmination of the 2026 pilgrimage season on August 28.
