Chandigarh, August 20: Panjab University will hold its Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) elections on August 31, following official clearance from the Chandigarh administration. The voting process is scheduled to commence at 9:30 am, with the counting of votes set to begin later that same day at 12:30 pm.

The finalization of the election date comes after an initial proposal by university authorities to hold the polls in the first week of September was turned down. Local administration officials cited a shortage of available police personnel during early September as the primary reason for the rejection, forcing the university to advance the dates.

“The varsity had to adjust the timeline because securing adequate security forces for a September date was not feasible,” a senior administrative official stated. “Once the university shifted the proposed date to August 31, the UT administration promptly granted its formal approval.”

The electoral process officially kicks off on August 24, with candidates required to file their nomination papers between 9:30 am and 10:30 am. Departmental notice boards will display the preliminary list of candidates by 12:00 noon, following a brief scrutiny period. Objections can be submitted until 1:30 pm, and departments must forward all provisional lists and complaints to the Dean Student Welfare (DSW) office by 2:30 pm.

A multi-step clearance window will take place the following day. The university will publish its list of approved candidates at 10:00 am on August 25, followed by a ninety-minute window for nomination withdrawals. The official final list of contesting candidates will be made public at the DSW office at 2:30 pm.

The election cycle will extend into the following month to finalize the student leadership. Departmental representatives must submit their election results to the DSW office by September 8, paving the way for the executive committee elections to take place on September 11.
