LUCKNOW, AUGUST 22: The Uttar Pradesh government declared comprehensive measures to address deteriorating air quality across the National Capital Region (NCR), following directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. During a high-level review meeting, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh instructed concerned departments to establish firm operational timelines, appoint dedicated nodal officers, and enforce strict compliance against industrial polluters and agricultural stubble burning.
To ensure agricultural residue is managed effectively, state officials affirmed that pending tender processes for essential machinery, including balers, must be expedited without delay. Field-level monitoring will be intensified to curb stubble burning, alongside active farmer awareness drives. Furthermore, the administration ordered immediate physical inspections of non-compliant industrial units, maintaining that facilities failing to install mandatory pollution-control equipment will face regulatory action.
Key directives issued to regional departments include:
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Public Works, municipal, and housing departments must immediately share data to ensure time-bound repair of damaged roads, footpaths, and pothole fixes to suppress road dust.
- Clean Transport Expansion: Procurement of electric city buses will be fast-tracked, with site identification underway alongside UPNEDA to accelerate EV charging station installation.
- Vehicle & Data Tracking: Strict implementation of the end-to-end vehicle seizure process will be enforced, while departments must update real-time progress on the Pawan Portal to evaluate mitigation efforts. Show-cause notices will be issued to district officials failing to meet monthly performance targets.
