Gorakhpur, Sept 16: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath affirmed that encephalitis, along with lawlessness and public health neglect, has been eliminated across Uttar Pradesh through targeted healthcare interventions. Speaking at the inauguration of the Indian Medical Association Charitable Blood Bank in Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister maintained that nine and a half years ago, parents faced constant anxiety over children suffering from the disease due to inadequate regional medical infrastructure. He declared that medical expansion has since transformed eastern Uttar Pradesh into a thriving healthcare hub.
The Chief Minister asserted that state medical capacity has grown significantly, expanding from a single major referral hospital in the region to 85 medical colleges across 75 districts alongside two operational AIIMS facilities. He maintained that MBBS seats increased from 4,600 to over 13,500, while PG opportunities doubled. The state government is also establishing 10-bed dialysis units across all district hospitals, alongside launching Centers of Excellence in partnership with IIT Kanpur and SGPGI Lucknow.
Addressing the audience, Chief Minister Adityanath maintained that blood donation represents a vital symbol of public compassion, as blood cannot be synthetically produced. He declared that voluntary donation drives must be expanded via social media platforms to address supply deficits, while cautioning against professional blood donors to prevent infection risks. He praised the IMA for opening the charitable center on land allocated by the Gorakhpur Development Authority, maintaining that institutional expertise should directly serve underprivileged communities.
IMA Gorakhpur President Dr. RP Shukla affirmed that the state’s vision has propelled Gorakhpur into a prominent destination for medical care and medical tourism. Leaders maintained that the 400-unit capacity blood center aims to prevent casualties arising from blood shortages across eastern Uttar Pradesh.
