Chandigarh: Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema raised questions regarding the Bharatiya Janata Party’s upcoming ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’, asking the party to clarify its stance on border security, interstate drug networks, and river waters before launching the campaign in the state.
Addressing a press conference alongside AAP Media In-charge Baltej Pannu and Kharar leader Parminder Goldy, Cheema asserted that drug consignments recovered across the country often trace back to states like Gujarat and Rajasthan. He affirmed that the central government needs to strengthen vigilance along the 55-kilometre border belt managed by the BSF and address illegal networks in states governed by the BJP.
The Minister maintained that the Bhagwant Mann administration remains committed to its ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign through a dual approach of law enforcement and medical rehabilitation. He declared that the state police have introduced anti-drone technology to counter aerial smuggling and issued strict instructions to ensure strict action against traffickers. Responding to questions on the death of Gulzar Singh, Cheema stated that the matter is currently pending before the court and cautioned against politicizing the issue.
