Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party has sharply criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party’s newly launched anti-drug march, terming the initiative a political stunt designed to malign the state. AAP Media In-charge and spokesperson Baltej Pannu stated during a press conference that the opposition party must first account for its governance record during its coalition tenure from 2007 to 2017 when the drug problem initially expanded.
Addressing media representatives, Baltej Pannu affirmed that the previous administration failed to take effective enforcement steps or launch anti-drug awareness campaigns while in power. He maintained that investigations into trafficking networks were repeatedly stalled during that period, including the high-profile transfer of lead Enforcement Directorate officials. Pannu declared that the state government is now actively tackling cross-border smuggling through joint anti-drone initiatives and border vigilance, noting that primary sensitive areas remain border zones overseen by central security forces.
Highlighting ongoing state-backed sports development, the spokesperson asserted that the administration is successfully channeling youth energy into athletics through community sports infrastructure. He stated that over three thousand sports grounds are being constructed across districts, with hundreds already opened to the public. Pannu declared that the rising participation in state athletic events and strong representation in national sports teams demonstrate the true resilience and talent of the region’s youth.
