NEW DELHI: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad maintained a strong hold in the Delhi University Students’ Union elections by securing three of the four major central panel positions, while an Independent candidate delivered a major upset by capturing the vice presidency.
The counting of votes commenced on Saturday at the Multipurpose Hall located inside the University Sports Stadium on North Campus. Yash Dabas of the ABVP secured the president’s chair after obtaining 24,576 votes, outpolling National Students’ Union of India contender Vijay Shankar Meena, who finished with 22,523 votes.
In a notable victory for the vice-president position, Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen emerged victorious with a total of 30,615 votes. Shokeen established a wide margin over ABVP’s Ishu Maurya, who received 16,910 votes, and NSUI candidate Vir Chatrath, who recorded 4,313 votes.
The secretary post went to ABVP candidate Riya Chhawdi, who gathered 21,650 votes to defeat NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary, who collected 14,869 votes. ABVP also claimed the joint secretary position as Lakshay Raj Singh earned 16,615 votes, staying ahead of Independent candidate Vishesh Yadav with 15,778 votes and NSUI candidate Gopal Choudhary with 15,206 votes.
