CHANDIGARH — A delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjeet) met Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday, submitting a memorandum that requested the formation of a Special Investigation Team to look into the allegations surrounding SGPC member Amarjit Singh Chawla and related events at Sri Anandpur Sahib.
The delegation, which included Senior Vice President Karnail Singh Peer Mohammed alongside General Secretaries Davinder Singh Sodhi and Bhupinder Singh Shekhupur, maintained that a 15-day fast-track probe under an impartial officer is essential to bring facts to light. They asserted that the investigation must cover the complete sequence of events, including who facilitated travel arrangements for the woman involved from Bahrain, her stay in custody, and the logistics surrounding her accommodation at local religious institutions.
The leaders stated that the controversy and media reports have caused deep concern among the Sikh community regarding the administrative functioning of revered institutions. They declared that a comprehensive inquiry should examine all aspects of the case, including contacts made during the woman’s stay and the circumstances surrounding Chawla’s movement abroad following the registration of the case, ensuring that accountability is established under the law.
