Kharar, 23 February 2025 — A 50-year-old scooterist was killed after being hit by a speeding truck in Balongi on Friday afternoon.
Police identified the victim as Vishal Sharma, a resident of Sector 127, Kharar. Sharma was returning from Chandigarh with acquaintances Rajinder Singh and Sumit Arora after purchasing tiles for his house.
The three lived in the same society.
According to Singh, who filed the complaint, he and Arora were following Sharma on a bike when the accident occurred around 3 p.m.
“A speeding truck overtook us and hit Sharma’s scooter from behind, causing him to fall. The truck’s rear tyre ran over his chest and head. We rushed him to a civil hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival,” he told police.
The driver, identified as Maan Singh from Rajasthan, was arrested. He was booked under Sections 281 (rash driving), 106 (causing death by negligence), and 324(4) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Balongi police station.
