Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu expressed strong objection to the draft Chandigarh Health Service Rules 2026, stating that the proposed framework threatens Punjab’s long-standing entitlement in the union territory’s medical administration.
Pannu maintained that under the historic 60:40 formula agreed upon during the reorganisation of the state, Punjab holds a 60% share alongside Haryana’s 40%. He declared that introducing a 40% direct recruitment UT cadre—and dividing the remaining 60% between the two neighboring states—would reduce Punjab’s effective representation to around 36%. He affirmed that Chandigarh was built on land from Punjab’s villages, and any decision that diminishes the state’s historical claim remains unacceptable. Calling on the Union Government to conduct an immediate review, Pannu asserted that central authorities must safeguard Punjab’s rights and maintain the established administrative ratios.
