Mansa, 25 January 2025: Agniveer Lovepreet Singh, 24, who lost his life in an army operation in Kupwara on January 22, was cremated with full military honours on Friday at his native village, Aklia, in Mansa.
Lovepreet, serving with the 99 Medium Regiment, joined the Indian Army two years ago under the Agnipath scheme. Soldiers from his regiment accompanied his mortal remains to the village for the last rites.
A large number of villagers and political leaders from various parties attended the funeral. “The ceremony reflected the community’s respect for Lovepreet’s sacrifice,” said Mansa subdivisional magistrate (SDM) KR Kansal, who represented the district administration at the event.
Mansa deputy commissioner Kulwant Singh mentioned that the administration is yet to receive official communication regarding the circumstances of Lovepreet’s death.
Lovepreet is survived by his father Beant Singh, a farmer, his mother Gurmeet Kaur, and elder brother Sewak Singh.
