Ambala, 24 January 2025: Electric buses will soon hit the roads in Ambala, Haryana, aligning with advancements seen in metropolitan cities. Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij will flag off five electric buses on January 26, Republic Day.
The new buses will integrate with Ambala’s existing local bus service, which currently operates 15 mini-buses on routes between Ambala Cantonment and Ambala City.
These air-conditioned, pollution-free electric buses will ply on the existing routes, providing residents with a smoother and eco-friendly travel option.
Anil Vij emphasized the state’s efforts to align with the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP 2020) by introducing zero-emission public transport systems across Haryana. The initiative aims to contribute to a cleaner environment while ensuring convenience for commuters.
Expansion Across Other Cities
Vij announced plans to extend electric bus services to ten municipal corporations, including Panchkula, Yamuna Nagar, Karnal, and Rohtak, with 500 buses to be procured in total. Charging infrastructure, repair facilities, and other essential equipment are also being developed.
Separate depots will be established for city bus services in all nine cities, with 375 buses already ordered. The project is a significant step for Haryana, setting an example for sustainable urban transport in India.
Features of the Electric Buses: Each bus will offer 45 passenger seats and standing space for 18, alongside features like display boards, CCTV cameras, panic buttons, announcement systems, and GPS tracking to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
By introducing these buses, the government seeks to offer residents zero-emission, zero-noise public transport while improving intra-city connectivity.
