Bajwa Accuses CM of Dodging Responsibility on Drug Menace

Chandigarh, January 13: Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa criticized Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for failing to curb the drug crisis in Punjab, accusing him of evading responsibility while setting shifting deadlines.

Referring to Mann’s recent request for ₹600 crore aid from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to tackle drugs and establish special courts, Bajwa claimed the CM was preparing to deflect blame.

“If the Centre delays or denies funds, Mann can shift responsibility instead of addressing his administration’s failures,” said Bajwa.

Bajwa cited incidents, including drug misuse at a Muktsar night shelter managed by the Red Cross Society, witnessed during DC Rajesh Tripathi’s visit. The same day, a 39-year-old from Cheema Klan died from a drug overdose. “These are routine occurrences,” Bajwa remarked.

The Congress leader said seeking central assistance after three years in office shows Mann’s inefficiency.

“The AAP government lacks a roadmap to tackle drug abuse. All they do is pass the buck,” he added.
