Chandigarh/Amritsar, February 4: Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann following an alleged grenade attack at the Fatehgarh Churian police post in Amritsar.
Bajwa criticized Mann’s handling of the Home Ministry, saying, “This is the 11th such incident in Punjab since mid-November last year. However, the Punjab Police, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Home Ministry, remained inefficient in preventing such incidents.”
He further questioned Mann’s commitment to his responsibilities, asserting that if he couldn’t manage the Home Department, he had no right to remain in office.
Bajwa noted that while Punjab faced repeated security breaches, Mann was either in Australia for a cricket match or campaigning for the Delhi election.
He added, “If the Punjab Police under the AAP government cannot protect itself, how can it protect civilians?”
The senior Congress leader also criticized the worsening law and order situation, mentioning rising incidents of extortion by organized gangs.
He pointed to a recent case where a transporter from Mansa, linked to the family of slain rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, was targeted with extortion threats. “Is this the kind of Rangla Punjab the AAP always wanted to build?” Bajwa questioned.
