Chandigarh, Sept 19: Tensions escalated outside Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana on September 19 after Punjab Police briefly detained BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu following a dramatic protest as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s convoy was passing. The incident took place near the PAU gate where the Chief Minister had arrived to attend the Kisan Mela and an organizational program.

During the demonstration, Bittu displayed a liquor bottle along with plastic bags containing eggs and tomatoes as the ministerial cavalcade approached. He asserted that he was returning the items that were allegedly hurled at his convoy near Batala during the BJP’s Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra. Addressing media personnel, Bittu maintained that political opposition cannot be suppressed through police action, affirming that BJP workers would exercise their democratic right to protest peacefully against state government programs. Following the symbolic protest, police personnel present at the venue detained the BJP leader and took him to an undisclosed location before releasing him shortly afterward, allowing the Chief Minister’s scheduled events to proceed smoothly.
