Chandigarh, August 6: The Punjab Cabinet has approved the Punjab Regulation of Fee of Un-aided Educational Institutions (Amendment) Bill, 2026, aimed at preventing arbitrary and unreasonable fee hikes by private un-aided schools across the state.
Meeting under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann at the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the Council of Ministers sanctioned multiple legislative and administrative reforms designed to ease financial pressure on parents and streamline public services.
“The decision addresses unjustified financial burdens placed on families by private management bodies,” affirmed the Chief Minister’s Office, maintaining that statutory oversight will safeguard educational access across all districts.
In addition to fee regulations, the Cabinet approved the transition of eligible outsourced staff into direct contractual roles after a qualifying service period. Approval was also granted for setting up three private digital open universities in Hoshiarpur and Patiala, alongside expanding rural administrative blocks and approving environmental protection legislation to boost state tree cover.
