NEW DELHI, MAY 15 — The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation launched a landmark hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service on Friday, marking a significant transition toward zero-emission public transport in the national capital. Operating within the Central Vista region, the new service connects the Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth Metro stations, providing a green transit link for thousands of government employees and visitors.
The project is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Indian Oil Corporation Limited. Two specialized buses, each capable of carrying 35 passengers, have been deployed to serve a route that includes iconic landmarks such as India Gate, National Stadium, and various Bhawans.
“The project aims to strengthen clean urban mobility, reduce dependence on private vehicles, and improve last-mile connectivity,” an official stated. DMRC representatives affirmed that the service will operate on all working days during peak morning and evening hours.
To ensure safety, the vehicles are equipped with GPS tracking and CCTV surveillance. Commuters can utilize National Common Mobility Cards, UPI, or cash for payment, with fares starting at ₹10. Officials maintained that while DMRC oversees the operations and ticketing, IOCL is responsible for providing the hydrogen fuel infrastructure and drivers for the pilot program.
