Ludhiana, Oct 30: A sudden fire involving stored firecrackers on the top floor of a building in Fieldganj, Ludhiana, resulted in the death of a 27-year-old youth on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sahil Sabharwal, cousin of local AAP political leader Goldy Sabharwal. The building features a clothing retail shop on the ground level, while the upper floor houses residential rooms and a kitchen area where the fireworks were kept.
Witnesses noted that loud explosions echoed through the neighborhood shortly after the fire started, causing a boundary wall to collapse from the impact and trapping Sabharwal inside. Local residents maintained that firecrackers were stocked on the premises, whereas family members declared that the materials were leftover inventory from the previous year that ignited unexpectedly.
Emergency services and local police arrived on the scene to secure the area and control the blaze. Officials stated that investigation efforts are underway to determine the cause of the ignition and evaluate storage compliance in the residential area.
