Chandigarh, July 4: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has dismissed assertions of an internal rift within the state unit following a recent political gathering at former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s private residence in Morinda. Speaking on the matter, Warring categorially maintained that there is no structural factionalism active within the Punjab Congress framework and expressed total confidence that the state’s senior leadership will be seen sharing a common stage within the next forty-eight hours.
The political development follows an organizational restructuring by the party high command, which retained Warring in his presidential role while assigning Channi to handle the campaign committee. The decision prompted multiple former lawmakers and regional party workers to gather at the former Chief Minister’s home to voice their concerns. Warring minimized the significance of the meeting, treating it as a standard interactive discussion between long-time colleagues rather than an act of internal defiance.
A strict stance was issued to the rank and file regarding external commentary that could compromise the party’s image during this transition period. The state chief made it clear that organizational discipline remains paramount as political blocks align for future campaigns.
“Channi Sahib is our elder brother, a senior leader and former Chief Minister,” Warring declared. “If some Congress leaders meet at his house, there is nothing wrong in it. Tomorrow the leaders can meet at my residence or at Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa’s house as well. This should not be seen as an internal fight.”
The party president further affirmed that neither Channi nor any top-tier leader had stepped beyond permissible boundaries or acted against collective party objectives. However, he clarified that lines have been drawn for former legislators and junior leaders who choose to express their differences through public channels.
“Strict action will be taken against those former MLAs or leaders who are found making statements against the party or engaging in indiscipline,” Warring stated.
