Lucknow, June 12: The Uttar Pradesh government will connect every city and village with petrol and diesel-free green mobility electric services in the coming years. Through video conferencing from Lucknow on Friday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off 45 electric buses and 3 hydrogen buses of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation to operate up to Jewar Airport in the Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) regions, while also inaugurating the Noida Electric Bus Depot.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the country the vision of green mobility and sustainable development,” the Chief Minister declared. He maintained that operations at India’s largest airport, Noida International Airport, are scheduled to begin on June 15, and the three authorities have launched this service through the Transport Corporation to ensure seamless air connectivity and passenger convenience.
By June 15, all three authorities will commence operations of 110 electric buses, with plans to progressively expand the fleet to 500 buses based on demand. The Chief Minister affirmed that the state now possesses a road network of 4 lakh km, including highways and expressways, transforming the region into an expressway state. He stated that the state has established superior inter-state connectivity, shifting away from past infrastructural challenges to secure world-class roads and air connectivity.
“Three hydrogen buses are also being introduced in the Yamuna Authority area from today, which have been provided to YEIDA by NTPC,” the Chief Minister asserted. He added that these buses utilize hydrogen produced from treated sewer water rather than groundwater, serving as an innovative concept for green hydrogen mobility near Jewar Airport to significantly reduce air pollution.
To further achieve the net-zero target, the state government has launched the Uttar Pradesh Clean Air Management Project with World Bank assistance of ₹2,741 crore. The Chief Minister also noted that metro services are currently operating across seven cities in the state, while over 700 electric buses are functional across 17 municipal corporations. Local production has also received a boost, with Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland establishing electric bus manufacturing plants in Lucknow.
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’, Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh, and Minister of State Jaswant Singh Saini were present during the event.
