Ludhiana: Guest faculty Assistant Professors employed in Punjab’s government colleges are protesting their replacement by new teachers while raising their demands at SCD Government College and Government College for Girls (GCG) in Ludhiana, which attracted around 100 participants.
“We have been working in Punjab’s government colleges since 2002, dedicating 22 years to teaching and various college duties,” said one of the protesting professors.
“We were suddenly replaced by permanent teachers, despite holding these positions for two decades.”
The professors argue that the government should have accommodated the newly appointed staff in colleges with existing vacancies instead of displacing them.
Many of us are now too old to apply for government jobs, they added.
We are just demanding dignified treatment and fair compensation for years of service, they added.
Their demands include salary regulations with basic pay, a 38% Dearness Allowance (DA), a 10% House Rent Allowance (HRA), a mobile allowance of ₹500, and a medical allowance of ₹1,000.
If the government fails to address their concerns, the protests will escalate, as stated by them.
Notably, approximately 850 Guest Faculty Assistant Professors are currently employed in Punjab’s government colleges.
