Chandigarh, 4 Dec. 24: Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has revealed a fractured relationship with former captain MS Dhoni, admitting they are no longer friends. In a recent interview, the veteran spinner shared insights into his dynamic with Dhoni, sparking speculation about a long-standing rift between the two cricketing icons.
“We don’t speak anymore,” Harbhajan said. “I don’t have anything against him, but if he had something to say, he would have told me by now. We only spoke when I was playing for Chennai Super Kings, but otherwise, it’s been over a decade since we’ve had any communication.”
The two players, instrumental in India’s victories at the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, also shared success as teammates in the Chennai Super Kings’ 2018 IPL-winning campaign. However, Harbhajan’s comments suggest that their camaraderie has faded over time.
Reflecting on relationships in general, Harbhajan noted, “A relationship is always about give and take. If I respect you, I hope you respect me back. But if I call once or twice and don’t get a response, I will meet you only when necessary.”
The last time Harbhajan and Dhoni played together for India was during an ODI against South Africa in 2015. While Dhoni continued his cricketing career, Harbhajan retired from all forms of the game in 2021.
Harbhajan’s remarks have fueled social media discussions, with fans speculating on the reasons behind the apparent disconnect between the two. Despite his candid comments, Harbhajan refrained from blaming Dhoni directly, leaving the exact reasons for their strained relationship open to interpretation.
