CHANDIGARH, May 15 — Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has established a high-level committee to develop a framework for reserving state government jobs for Agniveers returning to Punjab. The initiative, announced Tuesday, aims to provide a structured rehabilitation path for youth completing their service under the federal Agnipath scheme.

The newly formed committee consists of senior civil and police officials, including Vikas Partap, Bhawna Garg, Sumer Singh Gurjar, and SS Srivastva. This team is tasked with finalizing the modalities of the recruitment policy to ensure these disciplined individuals are integrated into the state’s workforce.

“The basic contours of the reservation policy need to be worked out in a comprehensive manner so that Agniveers returning after serving the nation can be meaningfully rehabilitated,” the Chief Minister affirmed. He maintained that their specialized training makes them ideal candidates for the Punjab Police, Home Guards, and Fire Services.

Beyond security roles, the state plans to explore placements within the Forest department, Jail services, and PESCO. The Chief Minister declared that the criteria for selection should be established promptly to capitalize on the skills of these highly trained personnel for Punjab’s socio-economic growth.

“Punjab is also known as the sword arm of the nation,” Mann stated, noting the state’s long history of military service. He asserted that the government remains committed to the welfare of those who protect the country, citing the existing ₹1 crore ex-gratia provided to the families of martyrs as evidence of this support.
