CHANDIGARH, MAY 15 — Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh, Army Commander of the Western Command, reached a consensus Thursday to deepen the coordination between civil administration and military forces. The meeting focused on enhancing border management and disaster response capabilities across Punjab’s 550-kilometer international boundary.
The leaders prioritized the completion of vital infrastructure projects in the border regions to bolster national security. During their first official dialogue since the Lieutenant General assumed command, both officials maintained that a unified framework is necessary to manage internal security and emerging humanitarian crises effectively.
“Punjab is a border state with around 550 kilometres of international border, and therefore further strengthening Civil Military Synergy in the region is extremely important,” the Chief Minister stated. He affirmed that building mutual trust through coordinated policy is a top priority for his administration.
Discussions also covered the rehabilitation of Agniveers and youth empowerment initiatives within the state. The Chief Minister declared that the state government is fully prepared to assist the Indian Army with land acquisition cases essential for operational readiness.
“The Punjab Government will extend full support and cooperation to every initiative undertaken by the Indian Army in service of the nation,” Mann maintained. He asserted that a foolproof strategy for natural disasters and external threats is essential for protecting regional interests.
