SHIMLA, MAY 18 – The state of Himachal Pradesh registered robust civic participation as residents turned out in large numbers to cast ballots during the urban local body elections conducted across the hill state.
Official tabulations from the State Election Commission confirmed a consolidated voter turnout of 69.16 percent across 51 municipal entities. The democratic exercise concluded without any reports of structural disruption or polling irregularities, reflecting a high level of political engagement across the state’s urban councils, nagar panchayats, and major municipal corporations.
“The polling was peaceful across the state,” Himachal Pradesh Chief Election Commissioner Anil Khachi declared.
Khachi affirmed that voter turnout varied slightly between administrative formats, noting that localized municipal councils and nagar panchayats saw an impressive 72.42 percent participation rate, while larger urban corporations recorded a steady 63.44 percent turnout. The newly elected representatives will assume administrative responsibilities over localized development and municipal infrastructure projects early next month.
