New Delhi: BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh and actor Kangana Ranaut has stirred fresh controversy on Gandhi Jayanti by stating that the nation does not have a “father” but a “son.” Her comment appeared to downplay the significance of Mahatma Gandhi, who is widely recognized as the Father of the Nation for his pivotal role in India’s independence movement.

Taking to Instagram, Ranaut shared a photo of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose birth anniversary also falls on October 2, along with a caption that read, “Desh ke pita nahi, desh ke to lal hote hain” (The nation doesn’t have a father, it has sons).

The post has sparked criticism, with many interpreting it as an attempt to undermine the legacy of Gandhi.

Mahatma Gandhi, a key figure in India’s struggle for independence, is revered for his principles of non-violence and civil disobedience, which played a crucial role in ending British colonial rule. His contributions to the nation’s freedom earned him the title “Father of the Nation.”

Ranaut’s remarks have ignited backlash on social media, with critics accusing her of deliberately downplaying Gandhi’s importance on his birth anniversary.
