Chandigarh, Oct. 10, 2024: Major developments have emerged regarding the upcoming Panchayat elections in Punjab, with more than 100 petitions currently pending in court.  Earlier, a recent hearing in the High Court, where 250 petitions were addressed, resulted in a halt to the selection process.

The next court hearing is scheduled for October 14. The Panchayat elections are set to take place on October 15 across 13,937 Gram Panchayats in the state.

To ensure a smooth electoral process, the government has canceled holidays for all police personnel and officials until the elections are concluded.

Moreover, a public holiday has been declared for election day, allowing residents to participate in the democratic process.
