Chandigarh, June 10: The potential political alignment between the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party is an opportunistic attempt to recapture administrative control without any guiding public welfare ideology, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann declared Tuesday. Addressing a public gathering during a Lok Milni in Shamaspur village, Mann asserted that residents will firmly reject the traditional factions that previously destabilized the region through administrative corruption and controversial farm laws.

The Chief Minister maintained that the political maneuverings are intended purely to extract regional resources rather than serve the populace. He noted that the electorate permanently changed the state’s political direction in the 2022 elections by voting for honest governance over historical family-led establishments.

“The Akali Dal-BJP alliance will prove fatal for both parties because it is not based on any ideology or concern for public welfare,” Mann declared during the rural assembly. “Its sole objective is to grab power in Punjab. Leaders of both parties have spent years attacking each other and spewing venom against one another. They must now explain to the people with what face they will seek public support.”

Mann stated that the central government has consistently acted against the development of Punjab, referencing the prolonged agricultural protests where more than 700 farming lives were lost opposing federal legislations. He further claimed that national regulatory bodies are being converted into political tools to compel small business owners and regional politicians into supporting the central ruling party.

Turning his criticism toward past regional administrators, the Chief Minister asserted that former officials are directly responsible for the expansion of illegal narcotics that harmed younger generations. He also noted that the opposition Congress party is crippled by internal competition, functioning as a divided entity where personal ambition outnumbers grassroots coordination.

“The Akalis sought votes in the name of Gurbani but failed to uphold its sanctity,” Mann asserted while referencing past sacrilege occurrences. “Former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal speaks about development during the Akali regime but turns a blind eye towards Kotakpura, Behbal Kalan and other incidents where beadbi of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji took place and innocent people lost their lives.”

To counter past regulatory failures regarding desecration, Mann noted that the current government enacted the historic Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act 2026, which introduces stringent penal provisions including lifetime incarceration and steep financial penalties for sacrilege. The Chief Minister declared that the administration has concurrently reformed basic infrastructure, raising agricultural canal water utilization from 22 percent to more than 80 percent and delivering over eight hours of uninterrupted daytime electricity to local cultivation sectors.
