Bathinda: Following the circulation of a social media video alleging the sale of contraband in Sangat Kalan village, nearly 200 police personnel launched a dynamic cordon and search operation across Bathinda district this morning. The targeted action at Sangat Kalan village and Sangat Mandi comes shortly after a 3.12-minute video was posted online, which purported to show illegal substances being sold and delivered rapidly in the area.
Law enforcement authorities acted swiftly, detaining approximately 20 individuals during the morning sweep and seizing various materials. Bathinda SP Headquarters Jagdish Bishnoi affirmed that multiple detentions were made as part of the drive. He stated that the department is currently processing the detentions, adding that precise details would be released once FIRs are formally registered.
Prior to today’s search drive, law enforcement officials had already taken three individuals into custody in connection with the claims made in the video. The arrested individuals were identified as Harinder Singh, Manjinder Kaur, and Arunpreet Singh Gaggu. Officers confirmed that a recovery of 9 grams of heroin was made from them during the initial investigation.
The video, which was shared on the official Facebook page of the Shiromani Akali Dal, asserted that illegal substances were being sold for Rs 600 and delivered by women within minutes. SAD representatives maintained that the rapid availability of such items required immediate attention, using the post to request a comprehensive inquiry from the state administration. The police continue to monitor the region to ensure law and order.
