New Delhi, July 4: The upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament will take place between July 20 and August 13, featuring a dense legislative agenda focused on crucial constitutional reforms. President Droupadi Murmu approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament following the formal recommendations submitted by the Union government.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the schedule, asserting that the multi-week assembly is designed to foster critical governance outcomes. The session will continue for nearly a month to allow for meaningful debate, discussion, and decisions on various issues of national importance, the Minister declared in his briefing.
Among the top priorities, the treasury benches are highly keen on steering two major legislative updates: the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill and the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill. The first draft introduces strict accountability measures, mandating the automatic removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and other ministers from their official positions if they fail to secure bail within thirty consecutive days of detention for serious criminal offences.
The second proposed amendment addresses key electoral updates by directly linking future delimitation exercises with the implementation of the landmark 33 per cent women’s reservation policy. Once passed, this legislation will officially operationalize the reserved quotas for women within the Lok Sabha as well as across all state legislative assemblies.
