AMRITSAR, April 16 — The Counter Intelligence Wing of the Punjab Police has dismantled an ISI-backed terror module following the arrest of a resident of Galluwal in Amritsar. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced Thursday that the operation led to the recovery of four P-86 hand grenades, two foreign-made pistols, and a cache of ammunition.
The accused, identified as Sagar Singh, was apprehended on the Khasa-Ram Tirath Road during a joint operation by the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) units from Amritsar and Mohali. Preliminary investigations revealed that Singh was operating under the direction of foreign-based handlers and maintained links with the module responsible for the recent grenade attack in Chandigarh.
AIG Sukhminder Singh Mann stated that the arms consignment had been pushed from across the border and retrieved by local operatives for a planned attack. Findings indicated that the accused first established contact with his handler through social media in January 2026 and was motivated by promises of financial gain. Despite a previous arrest in February, Singh allegedly resumed his activities upon being released on bail in March, using encrypted communication platforms to stay in touch with his overseas contacts.
The Punjab Police affirmed that the crackdown is part of an ongoing drive to ensure state security. A case has been registered under the Explosive Substances Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, while authorities declared that further investigations are underway to track down additional members of the network.
