Jalandhar, 21 October 2024: The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have prevented three targeted killings by arresting five members of the Bambiha-Kaushal gang. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed the arrests, emphasizing that they were part of an intensified campaign to crack down on organized crime, following directives from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
“The arrests are a significant step in our mission to eliminate organized crime in the state,” said DGP Yadav. The suspects, identified as Jaspreet Singh, alias Jassa, from Boparai Kalan in Jalandhar; Harshdeep Singh from Garage Mehdood in Hoshiarpur; Shekhar from Muradpur in Tarn Taran; Gagandeep Singh, alias Ginni Bajwa, from New Model Town in Jalandhar; and Amit Sahota from Bambian Wal in Jalandhar, were found in possession of a cache of weapons.
Police recovered nine firearms—eight pistols and one revolver—along with 15 live cartridges during the operation. “These individuals were linked to various serious crimes, including extortion, murder, and arms trafficking. Multiple criminal cases have already been registered against them,” Yadav added.
Jalandhar Commissioner of Police (CP) Swapan Sharma provided further details, explaining that the arrests followed a coordinated operation based on intelligence inputs indicating that the gang was planning a major crime. “We set up checkpoints at key locations, leading to the apprehension of three suspects—Jaspreet, Harshdeep, and Shekhar—at the BSF Chowk. Six weapons were seized from them,” Sharma revealed.
Subsequent investigations led to the capture of Gagandeep and Amit Sahota at a checkpoint near Bhargo Camp, where authorities confiscated an additional three weapons. “This operation is ongoing, and we expect more arrests as we work to dismantle the entire network,” said CP Sharma.
Two cases under the Arms Act have been registered at the New Baradari and Bhargo Camp police stations. The police are continuing their investigation to bring other members of the gang to justice.
