Chandigarh, 10 January 2025: Punjab has scrapped the draft of the Central Agriculture Policy, calling it an attempt to reinstate repealed farm laws. The state government sent a letter to the Centre, urging it to abandon the policy and leave agriculture matters to Punjab, citing state-specific needs.
The letter raises concerns over the exclusion of Minimum Support Price (MSP) provisions and the policy’s push for private markets, which could undermine Punjab’s established market committees and rural infrastructure. The cap on market fees was also criticized as detrimental to local systems.
Meanwhile, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, on a hunger strike at the Khanauri border, remains in critical condition as his fast enters the 46th day.
