Patna, May 19: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann offered prayers at Takht Sri Harimandir Ji, Patna Sahib, on Monday, marking a formal visit to the birthplace of the tenth Sikh leader, Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
During his visit to the historic shrine, the Chief Minister stated that Punjab has established a national precedent for preserving religious honor by passing comprehensive legislation against desecration. He noted that the new statutory framework ensures that those who commit sacrilege against the Sri Guru Granth Sahib will face life imprisonment.
The visiting official used the platform to advocate for broader legal changes, urging other regional administrations to introduce comparable measures to protect religious sentiments.
“I appeal to all state govts across country to enact strict laws against beadbi; Punjab is ready to extend all possible help,” Mann stated.
Reflecting on the administrative milestone, the Chief Minister asserted that the state government was granted a unique opportunity to defend the sanctity of the holy text through this legislative action. He maintained that the strict penalties are designed to completely deter acts that disrupt communal peace.
The leader added that his visit provided personal renewal, reinforcing his commitment to the ongoing development and harmony of Punjab. He declared that his administration remains dedicated to building a prosperous environment guided by the historic principles of truth, compassion, and universal brotherhood.
