Nawanshahr, August 4: The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana facilitated life-saving medical care for a baby girl born nearly three months premature in Nawanshahr.
Delivered at 27 weeks gestation with a birth weight of just 700 grams, the infant received 50 days of intensive care inside the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at an empanelled private facility. The entire medical procedure, amounting to approximately three lakh rupees, was executed completely cashless under state coverage.
Expressing commitment to accessible medical services, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh affirmed, “No family should have to choose between saving a life and arranging money for treatment.”
Following her birth in early June, the infant experienced acute respiratory complications due to underdeveloped lungs. Medical specialists placed her on ventilator support for continuous monitoring and specialized intervention over five weeks.
Attending physician Dr Hartesh S. Pahwa noted that premature infants require specialized medical protocols, maintaining that continuous clinical care and nutrition enabled her gradual recovery prior to discharge.
Reflecting on the financial support, the infant’s father Suraj maintained, “Today, we are taking our daughter home because Punjab Government stood by us through the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana when we needed it the most.”
Data from the State Health Agency indicates that neonatal support packages under the scheme have assisted over 4,400 infants across Punjab, committing significant financial assistance toward specialized infant care.
