CHANDIGARH, MAY 12 — On the 112th day of the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, Punjab Police conducted 516 coordinated raids across the state, resulting in the arrest of 213 individuals. The operation, aimed at eliminating gangster-related activities, was carried out at mapped locations linked to associates of various criminal syndicates.
The state-wide crackdown, launched in January by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, involves specialized teams from all districts working in tandem with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF). Since the inception of the drive, total arrests have reached 28,551. Officials stated that during Tuesday’s operations, two weapons were seized and 11 proclaimed offenders were apprehended.
“The Punjab Police is committed to a gangster-free state through these decisive operations,” a police spokesperson affirmed. Apart from the arrests, preventive action was initiated against 66 individuals, while 28 others were released following verification and questioning. The department encouraged citizens to use the dedicated helpline, 93946-93946, to anonymously report information regarding criminal activities.
Simultaneously, the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” anti-drug initiative marked its 437th day with the arrest of 105 drug smugglers. Police teams recovered 847 grams of heroin, 46 kg of poppy husk, and ₹1.28 lakh in drug money. Officials asserted that the dual focus on enforcement and rehabilitation remains a priority, noting that 23 individuals were successfully persuaded to undergo de-addiction treatment on Tuesday alone.
