Chandigarh, June 24: Punjab is set to commence a comprehensive Special Intensive Revision of its electoral rolls, with the initiative scheduled to roll out on June 25. The extensive administrative exercise aims to ensure absolute accuracy in the state’s voter registry, culminating in the publication of the final voter list on October 1.
Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra finalized the procedural details during an institutional meeting with representatives from recognized political parties on Wednesday. The discussions centered on the systematic distribution, completion, and retrieval of enumeration forms during the upcoming field campaign.
“A total of 24,453 booth-level officers will reach out to 2.14 crore electors during the month-long exercise,” Mitra declared while outlining the scale of the operation. She asserted that the extensive field visits will conclude by July 24, running parallel to the planned rationalization of polling stations across all districts.
According to the official timeline, the draft electoral roll is scheduled for public release on August 3. Citizens and political entities will have the opportunity to submit claims and objections from August 2 through September 2, with administrative disposal of those cases set to take place between August 3 and September 9.
The Chief Electoral Officer maintained that the preliminary data processing phase has shown strong progress across the state.
“Out of the 2.14 crore voters, 86.02 per cent have already been successfully mapped in Punjab,” Mitra affirmed. She explained that the details of the remaining unmapped individuals have been provided to political leaders, inviting them to assist ground staff in closing the gaps efficiently.
The senior election official appealed for constructive collaboration from all political organizations to ensure seamless field execution. Top administrative officials, including Additional CEO Amandeep Garg and Joint CEO Navneet Kaur Bal, were present to clarify procedures and address inquiries raised by the party delegates.
