Chandigarh, December 7, 2024 — The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has announced the installation of 2,356 solar pumps for agriculture across the state, aiming to promote green energy use in farming.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora revealed that the project has been awarded to three companies—M/s AVI Appliances Private Limited, M/s PV Power Technologies Private Limited, and M/s Himalayan Solar Private Limited—through a transparent tender process. The installations are expected to be completed within four months.
Under the initiative, general category farmers will receive a 60% subsidy for solar pumps ranging from 3 to 10 HP, while Scheduled Caste farmers are eligible for an 80% subsidy.
The solar pumps will be prioritized for farmers in “dark zones” with borewells using micro irrigation systems. Arora highlighted that the pumps, operating during the day, will eliminate the need for nighttime irrigation, reducing diesel expenses and eliminating carbon emissions to promote sustainable farming.
“The initiative underscores Punjab’s commitment to sustainable energy and environmental conservation in agriculture,” Arora stated.
