Chandigarh, November 26, 2024: Addressing a Constitution Day program at Talkatora Stadium, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi renewed his demand for a nationwide caste census and criticized the lack of representation of Dalits, backward classes, and tribal communities among India’s top industrialists.

During his speech at the Congress-organized event, Gandhi’s microphone was briefly switched off, prompting slogans from party leaders.

The incident drew attention, especially given previous allegations by Gandhi of his microphone being turned off in Parliament. Smiling at the disruption, Gandhi remarked, “Whoever talks about Dalits and backward people in this country faces such treatment.”

He emphasized the Congress party’s commitment to implementing caste censuses in states under its governance.

“Recently, we initiated work on the caste census in Telangana, where the questionnaire was developed by Dalits, backward classes, and the poor,” Gandhi said. He added that Congress will replicate this model in other states where it holds power.

The event underscored the party’s push to address social inequality through data-driven initiatives like the caste census, positioning it as a key agenda for upcoming elections.
