Ram Rahim Singh Gets Parole Before Haryana Polls

Chandigarh: Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the chief of Dera Sacha Sauda and a convicted rapist, was granted a 20-day parole and walked out of Rohtak’s Sunaria jail on Wednesday, three days before the Haryana assembly elections.

During his temporary release, he will reside at the dera ashram in Barwana, Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, under tight security, according to jail officials.

The Haryana government approved his parole with the Election Commission’s consent, but he is prohibited from engaging in poll-related activities, making speeches, or staying in Haryana during this period.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year sentence for raping two of his disciples in 2017 and was also convicted in 2019, along with three others, for the murder of a journalist over 16 years ago.

This Parole marks the 11th time he has been released since his sentencing in 2017.

His most recent furlough was a 21-day release on August 13, after which he returned to Sunaria prison on September 2.
