RANCHI, July 28 — Security forces achieved a notable operational milestone in their ongoing anti-Naxal campaign as 16 armed cadres, including high-ranking commanders from difficult forest terrains, surrendered before state authorities in Ranchi. The rehabilitation ceremony took place at the state police headquarters under “Operation Navjeevan-II,” a joint initiative executed by the Jharkhand Police, CRPF, CoBRA, and Jharkhand Jaguar units.
Director General of Police Tadasha Mishra affirmed that the law enforcement machinery remains dedicated to restoring normalcy across insurgent-affected belts.
“We are committed to eliminating extremism and crimes from the state. The Jharkhand Police are working towards their commitment to make the state clean,” DGP Tadasha Mishra stated during the event.
Officials revealed that the surrendering group comprised 11 male and five female insurgents associated with prominent strike units led by CPI (Maoist) senior leaders Misir Besra and Asim Mandal. The group turned over a substantial cache of military-grade weaponry, including six INSAS rifles, two AK-47s, an HK-33 rifle, an M-16 rifle, a US Carbine, 38 magazines, and 1,562 live cartridges. Senior police leaders declared that removing such advanced arms significantly curtails the operational capacity of remaining extremist squads.
The administrative report indicates a steady de-escalation of Maoist activity across the region. Law enforcement records show that 93 insurgents have been apprehended and 45 have surrendered across the state so far this year, while 22 lost their lives during active field engagements with security forces. Officials also noted that eight additional squad members are currently undergoing surrender protocols in neighbouring Chhattisgarh under similar rehabilitation frameworks.
