Chandigarh, 23 December 2024: Three terror suspects linked to a grenade attack in Gurdaspur were killed in an encounter with a joint team of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab Police early on Monday in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh. Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, termed the operation a significant breakthrough against the Pakistan-backed Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF).

The suspects were identified as Gurvinder Singh (25), Virender Singh alias Ravi (23), and Jaspreet Singh alias Partap Singh (18), all residents of Gurdaspur. They were allegedly involved in a grenade attack on a police checkpoint in Gurdaspur, Punjab.

According to Uttar Pradesh Police, the encounter took place in the Puranpur area of Pilibhit. Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General (Law and Order) of Uttar Pradesh Police, confirmed that the suspects were seriously injured in the clash and later rushed to the Puranpur Community Health Centre. “They succumbed to their injuries shortly after being brought to the hospital,” Yash added.

During the operation, police seized two AK-47 rifles, two Glock pistols, and a significant quantity of ammunition from the suspects.

In a post on X, Punjab Police Chief Gaurav Yadav confirmed the operation’s success, saying, “In a major breakthrough against the Pakistan-sponsored Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), a joint operation by UP and Punjab Police led to the encounter with three KZF members who opened fire on our team.”

Yadav also noted that the terrorist module was responsible for grenade attacks on police establishments in Punjab’s border regions.

Yadav clarified, “This encounter, which occurred under the jurisdiction of PS Puranpur in Pilibhit, targeted three members of the KZF module linked to a grenade attack on a police post in Gurdaspur.”

Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire terror module, which is believed to be directed by Ranjeet Singh Nita, head of KZF. The operations were handled by Jaswinder Singh Mannu, a Greece-based operative, and Jagjeet Singh from the UK, who assumed the alias Fateh Singh Baggi. Punjab Police are working with UP Police to investigate further connections within the group.

Punjab Police thanked their UP counterparts for their cooperation in this interstate operation aimed at neutralizing the terrorist threat.
